Our Top 10 Summer Beers

When people think of the UK, the things that usually spring to mind are the Queen, bad teeth and cups of tea. One thing that they never associate us with, is the glorious weather we were all been basking in a few weeks ago. With the fear that even by the end of June the British Summer might have already been and gone, we’ve grabbed the factor 50, slipped into our socks and sandals and pulled together our list of Top 10 Summer Beers from some of the best breweries for you to enjoy…

Come rain or shine…

10. Thornbridge – Kipling – Pale Ale – 5.2% ABV – £3.50 (500ml)

Thronbridge_Kipling_WB_1024x1024First beer on our list is Kipling, and it’s a strong start from the guys at Thornbridge. A South American pale ale from the heartlands of Derbyshire, this is the perfect kick off. Refreshing and packed full of Nelson Sauvin hops to leave you dreaming of tropical islands in far flung places.

James our marketing whizz says; “love a Thornbridge Kipling. Very refreshing and perfect for BBQs or chucking into a cooler for the beach/park (not advocating drinking in public of course)”

9. Siren – Love of Work – Golden Ale – 3.6% ABV – £2.50 (350ml)

Love_of_Work_WB_1024x1024Who can genuinely say when the sun is splitting the trees that they are in love with their work? Yeah, me neither. But luckily the lucky people at Siren seem to love what they do and continue to bring us some of the best beers around; Love of Work is one of them. Brewed with Earl Grey tea of all things before its dry hopped with Amarillo, Citra and Centennial. Lovely.

Heather our IPA Princesses says; “After a long Monday what better way to chill out than with this low abv beer packed full of earl grey. Expect high citrussy notes from the bergamont. Though it may be small in stature it sure packs a flavoursome punch #yum”

8. Brewdog – Punk IPA – 5.6% ABV – £2.00 (330ml)

Punk-IPABrewdog’s flagship IPA that needs no introduction. Punchy, hoppy, tropical and refreshing it is filled to the brim with flavours of grapefruit, pineapple and lychee. A classic by all accounts and the go to IPA.

6. Mikkeller – Green and Gold – IPA – 7% ABV – £5.50 (500ml)Green_Gold_Can_Low_Res

Once again Mikkeller achieve what they have set out to do. This IPA is hoppy but not overpowering, bitter but balanced with hints of caramel from the malts, and tasty until the last drop. It’s this kind of big canned craft which will sort you out for an evening of watching the sun going down.

Heathers says; “An inspirational almost double IPA with a malty back bone backing up the citrussy, hoppy punch.”

Well, first things first, that pretty can bounces into any summer scene with ease. This cheeky wee gose gives everything away up front. It’s salty and tangy with a good dose of gooseberry. It’s thirst quenching and delicious.

Elvis has left the building and landed at number 2 on the list (sorry, that was horrendous). A fan favourite from our comments on Facebook the other day. The caramel base supports the powerful pine, orange and grapefruit punch packed in this can. This is one to bring to the BBQ and pass to the person that has never tried craft beer and change their life.

Eric on Facebook says; “Brewdog’s Elvis Juice…. Smells like summer, tastes like heaven”

1. Fourpure Brewing Co – Pale Ale – 5% ABV – £2.00 – (330ml)

Our number one summer beer is one that was chosen by everyone in the office. From the sunshine state (who should know what they’re doing when it comes to summer) it’s bursting full of citrusy and tropical aromas and flavours from the hops, we couldn’t think of anything better for the summer. It’s also featured in next months box! 🙂
