Ferment: Issue 1 – Copenhagen

Issue 1? You may be asking yourself. But I’ve been reading Ferment for over a year now? Is this some sort of Star Wars – start in the middle and return to the beginning once its ended scenario?

Don’t panic, Ferment has simply changed to its new glossier form. We’ve worked hard with our contributors and supporters to build it to a well respected and strong voice in the craft beer industry. The next step on that journey is the new 100 page magazine available in WH Smith stores nationwide, still foaming to the head with stylish artwork and beery insight from the UK’s top writers and experts.

What’s fresh then? Well this edition of Ferment turns its focus to Copenhagen, as we sit down in Warpigs Brewpub for Lunch with Mikkeller. Heather and Fraser pick the brains of Mikkel Borg Bjergso, tagged by Vice as the ‘Walter White of craft beer’ and one of the industries most renowned and enigmatic brewers. We discuss how to Drink Like a Dane and Craig Ballinger tours the cities sumptuous food and drink scene.

We take stock of jostling positioning of craft beer in Beery State of the Nation. Fashion statement? Social movement? Just great beer? Pete Brown discusses the merits of these three options and whether they matter at all. And Melissa Cole shares her Views From the Bar and whether the marketing of craft beer is problematic for women in the community. As well as the brilliant Beer52 contributions including What We’re Drinking, One to Watch and this months Tasting Notes.

It’s absolutely ‘fuld’ to the brim (see what we did there) with beautifully beery content and we can’t wait for you to have a read. Of course you can buy the magazine from WH Smith and all good newsagents, or you can grab it AND enjoy 2 extra Danish beers featured in Ferment, delivered directly to your door all for £24 by clicking this link and signing up.

Cheers to that!
