Our Top Craft Beer Bars: Glasgow

A spotlight on one of the best beer cities Scotland has to offer. With so many great bars, restaurants, and breweries to choose from we have selected 6 of our favourites. It is safe to say Glasgow is close to our hearts and think that it needs the attention it deserves as one of the most exciting and dynamic craft beer cities in the UK.

Bloc+: 117 Bath St
Outer

Bath streets basement bar is first on our list – its probably best known for its live music and its mad chef (his words not ours) But if slammin’ beats and Buckfast Ice Cream (again, he said it!) its less known for its amazing selection of canned and bottle craft beer. There is also a pairing recommendation on every menu item – and whats better than that? A must visit for any craft head in and around Glasgow.

Hug and Pint: 171 Great Western Rd

Nestled in Glasgow’s West End is this amazing vegan kitchen and bar. They have a wonderful selection of craft and spirits to match the hip decor and vibrant music scene that surround this venue. Packed with students and with a cool, youthful vibe throughout, its a great place to grab a pint.

The Raven: 81-85 Renfield St

“Smoked food, craft beer, good times” that’s the tagline for this awesome bar and restaurant. We know from our experience at Mikkeller and Brewdogs bars that smoked food and good craft beer go together like nothing else. Stocking Stewarts, Cromarty, Inveralmond and many more homegrown craft delights – you can see the support that the Raven gives to Scottish craft and for that we salute them 🙂

Six*North: 566 Dumbarton Rd

It’s a little bit out of the city centre, so this is maybe on for the locals but one you cannot miss. Kevin O’Donnel in his article for FERMENT this month called it ‘a little bit of Belgium in Glasgow’ and as we all know, thats no bad thing. Packed with loads of great Belgian classics – its a craft beer enthusiasts dream. We’re lucky enough to having one of these great bars opening below our office in Edinburgh. If this Glasgow branch is a whiff of whats to come, we cant wait!

DogHouse: 99 Hutcheson St

doghouse

Our favourite of the two Brewdog bars in Glasgow – Doghouse is the definition of what a craft beer bar should be. A wide and solid selection of brilliant beer, be it canned, bottled or draught. An awesome menu  (the cooked meats are out of this world) to compliment the beer. And stuck on the side is a bottleshop with some great brews to take away with you. The staff are always helpful and have an encyclopedic knowledge of every beer they are selling – brilliant for the aficionado or the casual enthusiast.

This was voted by James, who simply sent me an email saying “INN DEEP INN DEEP INN DEEP”. Well James, you’ll be happy to know its here and I can confirm what an amazing bar it is. Ran by the guys behind Williams Bros, you know its got beer at its heart – with a house range from their owners and an ever changing guest range. The real wow factor comes from its location though, it burrows into walls next to the River Kelvin. You may not have heard of it, so go and check it out and you wont regret it.

If you’re in and around Glasgow, these bars are all a must visit. Not only for good food and an awesome setting – but some of the best beers in the UK on draft.

Thanks for reading!
